Frequently asked questions
Is the Amarnath Yatra safe?+
The Indian government and paramilitary forces secure the entire route with a massive deployment each year. Natural risks (AMS, weather, landslides) are genuine โ stick to the route, don't rush, listen to SASB officials.
What should I wear?+
Layered warm clothing even in July (nights touch 5ยฐC at higher camps), high-ankle trek shoes (already broken-in โ DO NOT buy new ones for this), rain jacket, thermal inner wear, gloves, cap, sunglasses (UV is brutal at altitude).
Are phones allowed in the cave?+
No. Phones, cameras, and metal objects must be left in lockers before cave entry. Security is strict. Only puja materials are allowed.
Can I do the yatra solo?+
Yes โ SASB registration is per-individual. But the stretch above Sheshnag is best done in the company of fellow yatris; weather changes fast and the trail is remote.
